Nelson House Motto:

Within Nelson house we encourage an ethos where everybody strives to achieve.

We want everybody to be able to ask themselves, “did I do enough with the talent I had?”, and be able to answer “yes”. We all have skills and abilities that differ from our peers. Yet we foster a community where we support each other to achieve the very greatest things that we are capable of.

Like Admiral Nelson, we all will suffer adversity and things that may challenge us along the way. However, with our determination to succeed and support from one another we can overcome any obstacle life puts in our way, and achieve both our individual and collective goals.

Introduction to Nelson House

Horatio Nelson, was a famous officer in the Royal Navy. From his humble beginnings in Norfolk, he became one of the most inspirational leaders of our time.

He was known for his inspirational leadership and superb grasp of strategy and unconventional tactics, which resulted in a number of decisive naval victories. Nelson was wounded several times in combat, losing one arm and the sight in one eye. However, his determination and dedication ensured he always returned to service and was essential in many great naval battles. Of his several victories, the best known and most notable was the Battle of Trafalgar where Nelsons fleet engaged the Franco-Spanish fleet.

The battle was Britain's greatest naval victory, but during the action Nelson was fatally wounded by a French sniper.

His body was brought back to England where he was accorded a state funeral. Nelson's death at Trafalgar secured his position as one of Britain's most heroic figures. Numerous monuments, including Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, London, have been created in his memory and he is fondly remembered as one of our greatest and most influential Britons.
