Our 50th Year was celebrated with an Open Day that was attended by just under 2,000 people. The whole school was opened up to the public and each department had various activities running throughout the day. It was great to see so many past and present students, parents, families and members of the community roaming the corridors and enjoying finding out or reminiscing about our school. A temporary museum of the school’s history was on display in the old school hall which included the very first diary of events when the school opened in 1964, photo’s of staff and students throughout the 50 years, year books, workbooks, medals, trophies and much more.
The main corridor became a ‘hall of memories’ where people could leave messages or their favourite memories of their time at the school.
Our Catering students prepared and served afternoon tea to visitors throughout the day and our school canteen staff cooked and served fish and chips at lunch time which was enjoyed by many.
The sports hall was transformed into a busy Xmas Market with over 20 stalls bursting with festive craft and gifts. Our students made numerous items to sell on the day including festive decorations, treats, paintings and commemorative items.
Our current Head Boy and Head Girl met Sandra Warnes who was the very first Head Girl at Flegg. Sandra proudly wore her Head Girl badge and talked to our students about her role in 1964.
